They are carved lovingly (by Noreen) from hardwood, and then they are embellished with wood burning and paint. Their eyes are beads. Not only are these working tatting shuttles, but, they can be worn as a pendant when not being used in lace making. The 'Great Mother' Goddess tatting shuttles are carved lovingly (by Noreen) from hardwood, and then they are painted, then a design is painted and burned on, then the tatting shuttle is varnished. Not only are these working tatting shuttles, but, they can be worn as a pendant when not being used in lace making.  Make a cord and loop it through her arms to suspend her. The thread or yarn is wrapped onto her for tatting by looping it over her head, taking it down and around, then up and looping it on the other side, and repeating. It flows really smoothly and works beautifully.
